APARTMENT P

Location: Budapest, Hungary.
Year: 2026.

Located in one of Budapest’s historic districts, Apartment P presented a common challenge for period properties: how to transform a rigid, traditional layout into a home that feels airy and alive. The original space had incredible “bones,” but it felt heavy and disconnected from modern life. Our goal was to break that stiffness without stripping away the soul of the architecture, creating a residence that feels both grand and genuinely lived-in.

The primary hurdle was balancing the imposing 19th-century features with a need for openness. We solved this by using the existing massive arches and high coffered ceilings not as barriers, but as a rhythmic frame for a new, fluid flow. By restoring these classical elements to their original glory and pairing them with a clean, monochrome palette, we turned the architectural “weight” into a sophisticated backdrop that makes the rooms feel larger and more connected.

To counter the potential coldness of such a monumental space, we focused heavily on tactile materiality—what we call “quiet luxury.” We replaced the wear of time with high-end textures: deep-toned oak chevron floors, a monolithic marble fireplace, and soft, modular seating. This contrast between the sharp lines of the dark custom cabinetry and the soft curves of the furniture solved the problem of scale, making the large rooms feel intimate and comfortable rather than museum-like.

Lighting is often the missing link in historic renovations, where original layouts can leave corners feeling dark and forgotten. In Apartment P, we treated light as a sculptural tool. By installing fluid, contemporary fixtures that cut through the symmetry of the ceilings, we brought a sense of movement to the space. These aren’t just lamps; they are focal points that transition the apartment’s mood from a bright, professional gallery by day to a warm, private sanctuary by night.

Ultimately, Apartment P is a response to the client’s desire for a home that honors history without being a prisoner to it. We don’t just “decorate” spaces; we solve the friction between old-world architecture and modern lifestyle. If you own a property with character but find it difficult to adapt to your pace of life, our studio is here to bridge that gap and turn your vision into a functional, high-end reality.
